Brownie Crisp Tiramisu

Brownie Crisp Tiramisu

Tiramisu just got a whole lot crunchier - and we are not complaining. This Brownie Crisp Tiramisu swaps the usual ladyfingers for The Recipe Tailor's Brownie Crisps, bringing a deep chocolate base that soaks up espresso beautifully while still holding its satisfying snap. It is an elevated Italian classic made with clean ingredients, no refined sugar fuss, and layers that look as good as they taste.

What You Need

  • 1 pack The Recipe Tailor Brownie Crisps (approx. 100 g)
  • 250 g mascarpone cheese
  • 200 ml heavy whipping cream
  • 3 tablespoons powdered jaggery or coconut sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 150 ml strong brewed espresso or filter coffee, cooled
  • 1 tablespoon coffee liqueur or rum (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon good-quality cocoa powder, for dusting
  • Dark chocolate shavings, to garnish (optional)

How to Make It

  1. Brew and cool your coffee. Make a strong shot of espresso or filter coffee. Stir in the liqueur if using, then set aside to cool completely to room temperature.
  2. Whip the cream. In a chilled bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Do not over-whip - you want it light and billowy.
  3. Make the mascarpone cream. In a separate bowl, beat the mascarpone with the powdered jaggery and vanilla extract until smooth and lump-free. Gently fold in the whipped cream in two additions, using a spatula, until the mixture is uniform and airy.
  4. Soak the Brownie Crisps. Working quickly, dip each Brownie Crisp into the cooled coffee for 2 to 3 seconds per side. They should absorb some coffee but not go soggy - their sturdy texture is part of what makes this dessert special.
  5. Layer up. Arrange a single layer of soaked Brownie Crisps in the bottom of a 6-inch dish or individual serving glasses. Spread half the mascarpone cream evenly over the top. Repeat with a second layer of soaked Brownie Crisps, then top with the remaining cream.
  6. Chill. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results. The layers will meld together beautifully.
  7. Dust and serve. Just before serving, dust generously with cocoa powder through a fine sieve. Add dark chocolate shavings on top if you like a little extra drama.

Tips and Variations

  • Make it dairy-light: Substitute the mascarpone with thick cashew cream or coconut cream for a dairy-free version. The flavour profile changes slightly but remains rich and indulgent.
  • Keep the crunch: For more texture in every bite, break a few extra Brownie Crisps and scatter the pieces between layers before chilling.
  • Single-serve option: Layer into small glasses or ramekins for an easy, no-mess dessert at dinner parties - guests can scoop straight from their own glass.
  • Adjust sweetness: The Brownie Crisps already carry a balanced sweetness, so taste the mascarpone cream before adding more sugar and adjust to your preference.
  • Kids' version: Skip the liqueur and use decaf coffee or even cooled chocolate milk for the soak - still deeply flavourful and completely family-friendly.
